Did you know? Google can update your business details without you editing them

It is Saturday, you are open until two, and somebody tells you Google says you are closed. Your first thought is to ask who changed the hours. Perhaps nobody did. Managing a Google Business Profile does not mean every detail shown there comes only from your team.

Google can update a profile using information from other sources. Its help page explains the notifications and changes you can review in the editor. Google’s explanation A discrepancy alone is therefore not proof that someone has accessed your account.

A short check worth making regularly

For an appointment-based practice, the wrong hours can mean an unnecessary phone conversation. For a restaurant, they might mean someone changes their plans before calling. You cannot identify everyone who quietly went elsewhere. That is a good reason to check before it turns into a complaint.

I would start with the public profile, then look in the management area for flagged updates. After making a correction, compare the hours with your website. If the contact page says one thing and the profile says another, the customer still has to decide which to believe.

You can make this a short weekly check. There is no need to rewrite your description or publish something just to feel busy. Look at the hours, phone number, address and website link. Then consider any upcoming exceptions and make sure your team knows what has been announced publicly.

If an incorrect detail keeps returning, record what changes and when. Look for old business pages that still show different information. You cannot assume where every update came from, but you can reduce the contradictions you find. It is quiet work, without a dramatic result to show off. The customer experiences it as finding the door open when they expected it to be.
